Carrfour Supportive Housing “Reaches New Heights” with Annual Fundraising Luncheon

Event hosted by nonprofit developer and operator of affordable/supportive housing communities in Miami raises $140,000.

MIAMI, FL – October 10, 2011 – Carrfour Supportive Housing, a nonprofit developer and operator of affordable and supportive housing for formerly homeless families and individuals in Miami, received a big boost from South Florida’s corporate and philanthropic community as the City’s business and civic leadership gathered for the organization’s annual luncheon, Reaching New Heights.

The September 14, 2011 event, held at Miami’s Jungle Island, honored Senator Mel Martinez and Bank of America for their continuous support and commitment to ending homelessness. Sen. Martinez was recognized as Community Hero for his leadership in the development of affordable housing throughout his public life and his continued support of Carrfour as Chair of JPMorgan Chase & Co.’s operations in Florida. Bank of America, one of the world’s largest financial institutions, was awarded Corporate Hero Honoree for its longstanding support of Carrfour’s efforts in the South Florida community.

“Expanding the Carrfour mission requires the backing of South Florida’s business and civic community, whose support has been among our most valuable assets over the years,” said Alan Ojeda, chair of Carrfour’s board of directors. “From Senator Mel Martinez and our friends at Bank of America, to the countless sponsors who lend their support year after year, the advocacy of our community partners enables Carrfour to provide homes and services for thousands of people.”

This year’s event was Carrfour’s largest Annual Luncheon to date, with more than 300 guests in attendance. All told, Carrfour raised more than $140,000 dollars, providing the match funding necessary for the organization to secure public and private grants. With all proceeds from the luncheon directly supporting the residents of Carrfour, every dollar raised will leverage $100 in funding towards building and operating supportive housing for the homeless.

“This year’s luncheon theme, Reaching New Heights, is a fitting reflection of all the exciting progress taking place at Carrfour,” said President Stephanie Berman. “The past year has been our most impactful yet, and thanks to all of our supporters and tireless staff, I am proud to report that our organization has been responsible for the development and operation of more

than 700 affordable and supportive housing units across Miami-Dade County, providing safe and comfortable homes for over 1,300 men, women and children.”

Carol Fine, vice chair of Carrfour’s board of directors, served as 2011 Luncheon Chair and Master of Ceremonies.
